HVDD 0000 - Diesel/Heavy Duty Technology Orientation 0 Hours
 
HVDD 1036 - Introduction to Diesel/Heavy Duty Technology 75 Hours
This course provides students a basic introduction to the world of Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles, along with basic information about careers available in the heavy-duty commercial trucking industry, including the various classifications of jobs and the skills and certifications to hold them. In addition, students will also receive training in safety, personal protection equipment, first-aid, the use of basic tools and shop equipment, fasteners, locking devices and lifting equipment. Students will be required to pass a safety exam before they are allowed to work in the shop.  
HVDD 1201 - Heavy Duty Brakes 75 Hours
This course provides theory and hands-on experience for students on heavy duty braking systems. The course will cover maintenance and repair of wheels and tires, hubs and wheel bearings, air brake systems, drum and rotor brakes, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), and hydraulic braking systems. Students will be required to maintain, service, and replace wheels and tires, bearings and hubs, air brake components and a variety of braking systems, troubleshoot and repair of the anti-lock braking system.  
HVDD 1301 - Suspension and Steering 60 Hours
This course provides theory and hands-on experience for students on the maintenance and repair of front axles, alignment, truck frames, suspension system, steering system, and coupling devices. Students will receive training on front end components, steering components, frame and suspension components, coupling devices, and alignment. Students will be required to maintain, remove and replace suspension and steering components.  
HVDD 1501 - Electricity and Electronics 90 Hours
This course will provide theory and hands-on training on principals of electricity, basic electrical components, sensors, and circuits. Students will receive training on basic electrical circuits, sensors, components, wiring schematics, multi-meters. Students will be required to build electrical circuits, test electrical circuits, and sensors using wiring schematics and proper testing equipment and methods.  
HVDD 1510 - Vehicle Electrical Systems 60 Hours
This course will provide theory and hands-on training on vehicle electrical systems. Students will receive training on battery systems, starting systems, charging systems, lighting systems, and instrumentation. Students will be required to troubleshoot, test and repair a variety of vehicle systems using proper testing equipment and methods.  
HVDD 1060 - Preventive Maintenance Inspection 60 Hours
This course introduces students to the service and preventive maintenance practices commonly found within the trucking industry. Course content includes inspection and maintenance of basic truck systems including cab and hood, engine systems, electrical systems, frame and steering components and the repairs that would be required during these services.  
MATH 1000 - Math I 60 Hours
Students apply the correct mathematical operation to solve practical problems. Students use whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percents to solve practical problems. Students are introduced to the basics of measurement, geometry, averages, probability, patterns and simple equations.  
BTEC 1030 - Operating Systems and Email Applications 30 Hours
In this course students will learn essential skills needed to successfully use a computer in school and at work. They will learn how to maneuver within the Windows environment through hands-on activities; including, launching programs, working with windows and the taskbar to enable multitasking, customizing the desktop, and managing files. Students will learn to use both a USB drive and the cloud for file storage. Finally, students will learn how to use the Internet to efficiently search for information on the Web and send and receive email.  
WKSK 1400 - Workplace Relations 60 Hours
This course will help you develop essential human-relation skills needed to maintain gainful and satisfying employment. It includes familiarization with problematic areas found in the workforce including: presenting yourself professionally, developing a professional work ethic, developing interpersonal skills, winning at office politics, and planning and managing your career.  
WKSK 1500 - Job Seeking Skills 30 Hours
Students in this course will learn to prepare and successfully apply to potential career opportunities. Students will be presented with essential job-seeking skills needed to find gainful employment.  
HVDD 1010 - Drive Train 90 Hours
This course provides the student with theory and hands-on experience on maintenance and repair of the heavy duty drive train systems. Instruction and repair will cover clutches, transmissions, drive lines, and differentials. The student will be required to perform clutch adjustments and replacement, pull transmissions, pull and repair drive lines and u-joints, and differentials.  
HVDD 1045 - Diesel Engines I 120 Hours
This course provides the student with introductory theory and hands-on training in basic operation, parts, and overhaul procedures of a diesel engine. The course covers the removal, service, and repair of engine blocks, crankshafts, pistons, rings, connecting rods, camshafts, valve trains, injection pumps, and accessories in both small and large diesel engines.  
HVDD 1050 - Diesel Engines II 90 Hours
This course provides the student with more advanced theory and hands-on training in operation, parts and overhaul procedures of a diesel engine. The course covers the removal, service, and repair of engine blocks, crankshafts, pistons, rings, connecting rods, camshafts, valve trains, injection pumps and accessories in both small and large diesel engines.  
HVDD 1400 - Heavy Duty HVAC 90 Hours
This course provides the student with theory and hands-on experience in the troubleshooting and repair of heavy duty truck air conditioning systems. Instruction covers condensers; check valves; driers; compressors; evaporators; controls; heating and engine cooling systems; operating systems and controls; and refrigerant recovery, recycling, and handling.  
HVDD 1690 - Truck Diagnostics 60 Hours
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of truck diagnostics. Course content includes the basics fundamentals of on-board computers, sensors, and communication networks. Also included in this course are wiring, connector and terminal repair, and basic familiarization with the current exhaust after treatment systems and components.  
HVDD 1040 - Hydraulics I 60 Hours
This course provides instructions and hands-on training of fluid power (hydraulics) as used in modern mobile equipment. Instruction includes practical theory and hands-on training related to the operation and repair of hydraulic/pneumatic components and systems. This course emphasizes testing, troubleshooting, design, and use of hydraulic schematics.  
HVDD 2910 - Diesel/Heavy Duty Technology Externship 30 Hours
This course is comprehensive and integrates student knowledge and skills. Students will apply decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in completing realistic diesel mechanic projects as defined in agreement documentation and contracts.
